Build the scene where you found the reference
ShotBook is a catalog of video references for editors and filmmakers, organized by editing and shooting technique. Every board in it is an infinite canvas: the reference you searched for and the scene you are planning sit in the same place.
Put the scene together
- Drop references, images, and text onto the canvas.
- Trim a reference to the beat you mean. The fragment loops on the board, so a shared board plays the moment you meant instead of the whole clip.
- Take a frame from any video on the board and use it as a reference.
- Connect videos, stills, and notes into a scene or a timeline.
- Camera marks, movement arrows, lighting schemes.
- Start from a storyboard, a scene plan, or a moodboard.
Found the reference somewhere else? Paste a link from Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, or Facebook and it becomes a card on the board. The board saves as you work and keeps earlier versions.
What the canvas is not
- It is a reference catalog, not a stock library. You cannot download footage from it.
- It will not make the edit for you. It shortens the distance from inspiration to execution.
- It is not a live-presence tool. You and the people you invite work on the same board, but you do not see each other’s cursors.
Questions before you start
How do I build a video moodboard for a client?
Search the catalog by technique, drop what fits onto the board, trim each reference to the moment you mean, and put a note next to it saying why it is there. Then share the board with the client by link — sharing by link comes with a paid plan.
How do I share video references with a client so they can approve the style before the shoot?
On a paid plan, share the board by link in view mode. The client opens it without an account, watches the trimmed fragments, and answers on the same references you are looking at.
Can I put a video that is not in the catalog on the board?
Yes. Paste the link — Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, or Facebook — and it becomes a card.
Does my client need an account to see the board?
No. A shared link opens without an account — sharing by link comes with a paid plan.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Search the catalog and build a board on the free tier; detailed video views are capped per day. Paid plans are monthly and yearly, and they open sharing by link and invitations. Payments are processed by Paddle.
